HOST Gallery is in Clerkenwell in the original AOP Gallery space. It publishes Foto8 Magazine and specialises in documentary work.
'Destroying the Laboratory for the Sake of the Experiment'
For anyone who fancies an evening of photography and poetry from renowned Magnum photographer Mark Power and poet Daniel Cockrill. This is a collaborative project, taking Power and Cockrill across England as they spend a few days in a different part of the country each month. They respond to their surroundings in words and pictures, reflecting on the country that they both loathe and love. The juxtaposition of spoken word poetry and photography results in a speculative and intriguing mix while the Power/Cockrill alliance brings a fresh and exciting element to the photographic essay. The project is on-going and will result in a show at Atlas Gallery in London in June 2010.
Mark Power was made a full Member of Magnum in 2007 and has published four monographs since 1996. He is also Professor of Photography at the University of Brighton. In his most recent publication A Georgian Spring (Chris Boot, 2009) Power was one of 10 magnum photographers chosen to document present-day Georgia.
Daniel Cockrill is a poet from Essex. His first book Pie and Papier Mache was released in 2007. He also runs a stand up poetry night “for people who don't necessarily sleep under duvets made from poetry books.”
