Week 6 ROBERT FRANK
This week we looked at Robert Frank for the whole session. We considered his life, his relationships, the people he knew, beat poetry, the Rolling Stones attitude to publicity, being true to yourself and seeking out truth in the world. You really need to understand Robert Frank the man and what happened in his life to really understand his work as a photographer, as an artist and as a film maker. He took 20 000 images for the Americans, and the resulting edit was so powerful that they refused to publish it in America. It was some time before they could really except what he said in it and appreciate this body of work. It is said to be one of the most important books ever published. If you missed this lecture then look at the documentary made on Roberts Franks life for the South Bank Show. Its in the library. It is the only interview he has ever agreed to do.
